Educational Evaluations

Our evaluations help families better understand how their child learns and what supports may be needed.

Evaluations may assess:

  • Academic achievement
  • Reading and dyslexia risk
  • Math skills
  • Written language
  • Executive functioning
  • Learning strengths and weaknesses

After the evaluation, families receive practical recommendations that can be used at home, in therapy, and at school.

Starting at $275

FAQ:

How is our evaluation different from a school's evaluation?

Initial evaluations at schools are used to determine special education eligibility. If a student meets eligibility criteria, then the assessments are used to write an Individualized Education Plan for public school-based services.

Our academic evaluations are more comprehensive in reading, writing, and language, and they serve a different purpose. We aren't just looking at eligibility requirements, we are identifying needs, no matter how big or small the deficit is.

How are your evaluations different from clinical evaluations?

A clinical evaluation should provide more in-depth testing and can identify and diagnose dyslexia and related conditions such as autism, ADHD, intellectual disability, anxiety, etc. that impact learning.

Our academic testing is very thorough and used to plan for intervention. Both types of assessments may be needed if your child is experiencing learning challenges combined with other behavioral or cognitive difficulties.

Can you diagnose dyslexia?

Only a clinician, such as a psychologist, can diagnose dyslexia. However, many pediatricians are able to interpret our academic assessments and consider other health information to determine if a diagnosis is warranted. The clinical definition of dyslexia is simply an unexpected and persistent difficulty with accurate word reading, fluent reading, and/or reading comprehension despite adequate reading instruction.

Can you diagnose ADHD or Autism?

Our evaluators are educators and can't make clinical diagnoses such as ADHD, Autism, Intellectual Disability, etc. We do make note of any concerning symptoms during the evaluation, so you can discuss those concerns with your pediatrician or a psychologist.

What does your evaluation include?

  • Assessment administration (3-4 hours)
  • Parent Interview/Intake
  • Score reports for all assessments
  • Bound interpretive report
  • Recommendations for home, school, and clinical providers
  • Follow up consultation

Why don't you accept insurance?

Most of our services are considered "educational" and aren't covered by insurance. For therapy services, I learned, as a parent of a child with disabilities, that using your insurance isn't always cheaper. It's difficult to get coverage for therapy services for exactly what you want to address.  The insurance company ends up dictating who is eligible for services, what services you can access, and the frequency of services. Billing rates for our competitors who bill insurance are SEVEN times higher than our cash price.

Are there any cost savings for services?

Most of our services are considered tax deductible with a Letter of Medical Necessity from your doctor. You can discuss these options with your accountant or the manager of your HSA or FSA account. Recent updates do consider membership services eligible. However, Uniquely Wired Consultants LLC does not guarantee any of these savings. We simply provide you with a detailed receipt for your chosen payment method. (We do NOT provide a SUPERBILL for self-filing with insurance.)
